“New Study Reveals Pigeons Can Pose Harm and Unveils Child’s Illness Case in Delhi”
We all know that some decades ago it was heard that pigeons are our friends who used to work to send letters from one place to another. Many songs have been made about this. But nowadays these same pigeons can be a danger to us.
These days, people feed pigeons which is a very good thing. However, the droppings and feathers of these same pigeons can become a serious cause of disease.
Actually, a new study has confirmed that the droppings and feathers of pigeons in attics or balconies can be harmful, potentially triggering allergies. In fact, in a case study, an 11-year-old boy from East Delhi fell seriously ill after continuous exposure to pigeon droppings and feathers. The treatment of this boy took place at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital in Delhi.
Hypersensitivity Pneumonitis (HP)
The boy was brought to the hospital after severe coughing. It was mentioned in the statement that his condition worsened because he had developed an allergy to pigeon droppings and feathers, leading to weakened respiratory function. Upon examination, it was found that the boy had developed hypersensitivity pneumonitis (HP), caused by an allergy to proteins from pigeons. Therefore, immediate treatment was necessary for him.
Dr. Dhirendra explained that in the medical tests, swelling and opacity were found in the boy’s lungs. The chest X-ray, which typically shows dark shades, revealed white areas instead, indicating opacity. HP is a lung disease that can cause difficulty in breathing. This condition is more prevalent in adults and less common in children. Each year, it affects 2-4 people per 100,000 population.
High-Flow Oxygen Therapy,
In the case study, the doctor mentioned that the boy was given high-flow oxygen therapy, which assists in breathing. This therapy, delivered through a tube inserted into the nose, provides oxygen to the entire body. According to the doctor, high-flow oxygen therapy also helps alleviate respiratory issues and normalizes oxygen levels in the lungs.
